I visited Everglades National Park for a few hours during a short family trip to Miami. We flew from Trenton- Mercer Airport (TTN) to Palm Beach (PBI), and while TTN is a bit of a drive from Brooklyn, parking on location was both cheap and easy, with lots available close to the airport terminal. Security took minutes, as Frontier is the only airline currently operating out of the airport, and they have just one flight scheduled every few hours. Upon landing, we rented several vehicles at Avis in PBI, to fit our entire family. We stayed at a clean and neat Airbnb for the night and enjoyed the pool immensely.

The next morning, I, along with some of my family, headed to Everglades National Park to explore. While we did not have a lot of time to spend in the park, we did our best to make the most of it.

After stopping by the Earnest F. Coe Visitor Center for a map, we hiked the Anhinga Trail. While this is usually a great spot to see alligators, the winter had been dry, which means that less alligators were out and about. Luckily, we did manage to spot one alligator along the trail.

Next, we drove to Long Pine Key Campground, where a picturesque lake surrounded by hiking trails is located.

For our final stop we met up with the rest of the family and headed to the Everglades Alligator Farm. The kids enjoyed the alligator show, and even though the airboat ride was slightly headache inducing, we had a great time. There weren’t a lot of alligators visible in the swamps either, but we did manage to see a few.

We had a great time exploring the Everglades, although I hope to be back one day to hike and discover the interior park trails.
